What's in a name

The Name: Veda

I liked it since Vada Sultenfuss from the 1991 movie My Girl and it eventually grew on Joe.  I wanted something that sounded good with Silas and that did not start with an "S".  The name didn't have to be super origional, I just didn't want the name we chose to be the next big trend.  The farther down on the popularity list the better and Veda or Vada hasn't been on the top 1000 in the last ten years (according to the Social Security website).

The spelling:

I just figured Vada Sultenfuss was Veda Sultenfuss. And I like how Veda looks as opposed to Vada.  But, like what is happening, I didn't want people to mispronounce it so we tossed around Vayda or Vaida, but Joe vetoed both.  Random people would ask me what I was going to name the baby ( clerks, nurses, etc..) and I would tell them. Then they would ask how I was going to spell it and I would say, "V.E.D.A" Most of the time their response was, "Oh, just like it sounds."  I thought I was in the clear with people thinking it was Vee-Da. I was wrong.

The Middle Name: Esther

It took us/me forever to decide on a middle name. We tossed around family names and other names that we thought sounded good with Veda.  We/I (Joe threw in the naming towel months before she was born!) decided on Esther. The name Veda has no significant meaning to us.  It's not family nor Biblical.  Esther has no family significance, but Esther from the Bible was an amazing woman of God (and beautiful!). And although Joe didn't like the actual name Esther, he was happy to name his daughter after such a strong godly women.

For such a time as this......

Angel - I LOVE the name Veda. I knew right away that it was like the girl from the movie. Beautiful - just like her! Congrats again!
