Silas sad that he can't be in the pool yet. It was hard for him that Veda got (had) to swim with dad and he didn't. But once he got in the pool for his lesson he forgot all about not having dad there.
I was laughing for a few reasons during his lesson. One was the swim dad next to me. His kids were in the lesson with Silas, they were maybe 3 and 4. He kept on coaching from his chair. "Eyes open when you kick!" "Long strokes!" As he does an example on land. I was cracking up thinking that he had to be kidding!
The teacher is in the water with the kids, the lifeguard is in the chair next to the pool for if (when) a kid goes under while sitting (or drifting away) from the ledge. There is a little ledge under them where they can sit and their head is above water, but its about 2 feet wide and there is always that kid who drifts away, and with one teacher and six kids....yea. The drifter was Silas last lesson. His head bobbed down and the lifeguard just grabbed him from his chair like it was routine. Silas didn't skip a beat. I was giggling!
After lessons there was open swim so we stayed and swam. The kids jumped off the ledge into our arms about 300 times each. Funny how I'm usually the preferred parent except when it comes to a pool -- there I'm chopped liver compared to dad!
And the evening ended with Silas asleep at the dinner table. Made the night time routine easy, but then he was up at 2am hungry. So there we were in the kitchen eating oatmeal at 2 am. I'd be fine if that never happened again!!
