Joe's parents offered to take the kids overnight. Yes please! So we made reservations at Pazzaluna in St. Paul and were excited to not have a curfew. We got their early and sat at the bar with some drinks and appetizers. I saw a young man getting an autograph by someone (probably famous) on the street. So Joe being Joe ran outside, stopped the young man and asked whose autograph he got. Keith David. No idea who he is, but Joe knew and we looked him up on our phones. Joe was pretty pumped.
We told our server about the situation and she said that there was a Starkey convention going on at the River Center the next day and all of the celebrities that donate to Starkey were staying at the St Paul Hotel (across the street from Pazzaluna). We decided that after dinner we would go to the St Paul Grill (restaurant in the hotel) and be a celebrity stalker at the bar.
In the mean time Joe sees Keith David walking on the street again and runs outside to shake his hand. Never dull!
We eat our food and head over to The St Paul Grill with our eyes peeled.
First thing when we get in the entrance I see a giant and figure it must be an athlete. I point him out to Joe and he mouths to me, "Dikembe Mutombo", and then proceeds to walk over to him and shake his hand.
The man standing in front of Diekembe is the "Soul Man" singer Sam Moore.
Now this is getting exciting!
We get drinks and nurse the heck out of them.
Every 10 to 15 minutes Joe walks to the lobby and casually acts like he's waiting for someone or watching the baseball game on TV. And each time he comes back telling me who he saw.
First it was Sinbad.
Then it was Mini me. This one Joe rushed back to me and made me walk out to the lobby in hopes of getting a picture of me and Vern. No such luck, Vern had an agenda.
His next round Joe shakes Evander Holyfiled's hand. That's a huge one! I saw the back of him as we were leaving.
Then we noticed some celebrity looking people at the bar. They were lookin' all good and had a Starky volunteer with them. After they left we had our server ask the bartender who it was. Dallas Austin and his lady. Famous song writer for people like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Boyz II Men, Pink, Lady Gaga to name a few.
Pretty soon our desert was eaten and our drinks were gone and since someone had to drive home we thought we'd just call it a night.
We took one last lap around the lobby. It was about 9:30pm at this time. And since the lobby was so inviting I suggested we just sit on the couches for a while and
Two Starkey volunteers were sitting near us and Joe starts talking to them, asking what their duties are and what celebs were at the hotel. One girls said she was escorting Paige from Extreme Home Makeover. We saw her as she walked through the lobby. And the other girl said she couldn't tell us who her celebrity was.
In conversation she asked where we lived and then said, "Maybe you can help me. My celebrity wants to rent a boat on the St Croix, do you know of a place?" We both sat and thought about it and then looked at each other and said, "We have a boat!!!" She still couldn't tell us who her celebrity was but she took Joe's number and told us she'd text in the morning if the celeb was interested in a boat ride.
We went home and tried to figure out who this celebrity could be by looking on the Starkey website at all the celebs that donate to the cause. Someone big enough where their name couldn't be revealed to us but also someone who would want to go on a speed boat on the St Croix. Bill Clinton was out and but we were hoping maybe Adam Sandler!
The Starkey escort texted us in the morning telling us the celeb was Mel B and her husband Stephen Belefanto. Mel B....I love the Spice Girls! And said she'd be in touch as to if Mel and Stephen were still interested.
Unfortunately they slept in too late and didn't have enough time to go on the boat before they had to get back and get ready for their event. But cool story anyway, right?!
Whenever we see Mel B on America's Got Talent we think about what could have been :)
