A friend of mine told me that she was going to make a rag quilt for her little baby boy. She verbally explained how to do it and I thought- that sounds easy.
I gathered together some vintage looking scraps of fabric that I had and liked for Baby Girl. One fabric being the left overs from her bumper. I cut three 10'' x 10'' squares of each. Sewed them wrong sides together leaving a 1/2 inch seam on all sides. Then clipped the edges for the fringe/rag look.
(top fabric - blue rosebuds- was actually the fabric Gwennie used to make my bedding as a baby, next- Hispanic donkeys- was used for some baby shower projects, next- purple and blue vintage floral- was an old table cloth from Goodwill, bottom- red and white floral- baby bumper)
My cute little finished rag quilt! I actually didn't do it the proper way. After I finished the quilt I looked up the tutorial online and traditionally you're supposed to have squares on both the front and the back. I also technically sewed them a little different, but Baby Girl won't care and I think it's cute. It's a bit crooked and definitely not perfect; but that's all part of quilting and giving your work of art some character-right?
Anyone looking for an easy sewing project that looks professional, I suggest a rag quilt. I used cotton fabrics and on the back I used a soft, thin fleece with no batting in the middle. They* say to use flannel or fleece for the squares so you can get more of the fluffy effect after a few washes. I think denim would be fun to use, too.
For a tutorial just google Rag Quilt :)
Happy Sewing!

Cute! I like that you used white minky on the back :)
Love it...I'm going to remind myself to google it and put it on a list to try. Connor just might be getting one for Christmas ;)
