Thankfully, things are moving right along with this one; my first appointment was today! Eleven weeks and I got to hear the heart beat; strong and steady. Only one heartbeat and my uterus is measuring right on schedule. No sign of multiples.
This morning I took the gender prediction test and according to that this baby is a GIRL. I took pictures of the test, but of course haven't loaded them on my computer. So you'll just have to take my word for it.
They have you pee in a cup (HAS to be morning pee) and then draw 20ml from a syringe and put it in the special predictor cup. It looked like there was some small confetti in the bottom of the special predictor cup. Swirl the pee in the special cup (swirl not shake!) and wait exactly ten minutes before looking at the color. Yellow (or unchanged) is girl and dark blue/green is boy.
The website says it's 90% accurate, they have a million and seven testimonials saying that IT WORKED and also the OB/GYN from the hit show The Drs. says it is accurate as well. But when I looked at the reviews for the product all I read was negative feedback. I asked my midwife how accurate the tests are and she just laughed. She said she has had many patients come in and tell her it was wrong, wrong, wrong.
I guess that leaves me minus $35 and still clueless. But it was fun taking the test!!
Joe and I would be thrilled with either a boy or a girl. Since the kids will be so close in age a boy would be fun so they can pal around and play together and hopefully be besties. And plus I'm kind of in boy mode here with Silas. But a girl, oh my how fun would a girl be? Pretty and sweet and daddy's little girl. So it's a win win and we're just thrilled to be adding to the family.
On another note: WE FOUND A BABYSITTER
.
Joe has been really
I didn't really want to just hire any old person from the Bethel website (who I'm sure would've been just fine...but still) because what if she's mean and Silas can't tell me that she's mean and I just haven't been ready to go there yet.
We have gotten a few numbers from the girls that work at the nursery at our gym. They are awesome, but they are also college students who between their seven jobs, have an internship, are taking 59 credits and are only available every third Sunday between 1 and 1:30pm. That's a little tricky.
So 'any old person' is out and so are college students, now what? Well, we are part of this amazing small group through Rockpoint church and a few weeks ago Rockpoint held a silent auction for the youth who are raising money to go on a trip this summer. A few couples in our small group are involved with the youth group at Rockpoint and they asked Joe if he would be willing to donate a window cleaning to the silent auction. He did and so we thought we'd check out the auction ourselves. We got introduced to some high school students that are raising money for the summer youth trip by babysitting. The couples that volunteer with the youth have been raving about these girls.
Now, this leads us to tonight. We are sitting outside on our deck as a family enjoying the beautiful weather thinking that we really should do something fun tomorrow. We could either do some family fun and run around in the back yard, or do some grown up fun and take the boat out and enjoy dinner with some friends. The grownup fun does not include usually Silas and that means we needed to a) cross our fingers that Silas would cooperate and we could have adult fun with him on tow or b) find a sitter.
Believe it or not, the latter sounded way more appealing to me. I let Joe talk me into calling one of the girls we met at the silent auction to just see if she'd be interested. For one it's SO last minute and these girls are in high school, like they want to give up a Saturday afternoon/evening to babysit.
Alls I'm saying is that Savannah is on my top five favorite people list right now!! She's a freshman but MATURE and EXCITED and FUN and MATURE and REALLY EXCITED. And she promised that all of the money would go straight to the trip. :-)
I went from being the hesitant parent that was nervous to leave her precious child in a strangers care to being the excited parent that is planning the next three years of babysitting for Savannah!
We also called Annelise and left a message with her. She called back and left a message saying she was going to be out of town but would (are you ready?) LOVE TO BABYSIT ANY OTHER TIME!!!
I forget that when you're not around children all day and you babysit once in a while it is not so much a chore, it's actually kind of fun. YAY for babysitters and YAY for an adult social life!
This has been an answered prayer... for both us and the babysitters!
I hope Silas and Savannah become friends!

Maybe I will have to try the Intelligender, just for fun of course! ;) Have you ever checked out those chinese gender charts? I think they say I'm having a boy... we'll see I guess!
