Chapter Seven

Look who is seven months old! What a trip, he's so much fun!

Here are some things Silas has been up to:

Crawling! It's not fast or real coordinated yet, but it works. It's more of a crawl, crawl, belly-flop...crawl, crawl, belly-flop. Until he gets to where he wants to be. Every day he does more crawling and less belly-flopping. Just in the last few days he has become mobile enough where he doesn't get frustrated trying to crawl. I think it's time to get some gates!

Eating! He likes most foods, or at least he'll take a few bites with a silly face. We are trying to get him to like fruits by dumping a bunch of rice in his fruit so it isn't so sweet/tart and more bland for him. He seems to eat them much better that way. Not liking sweet things is sure not a trait from his momma!

Babbling and 'boy' noises is what I hear most of the time he is awake. Yelling (sounds like some sort of protest he's making), blowing through his lips, telling us intense stories with sounds and lots of giggles. I can't wait until these sounds turn into words.

His hands are everywhere, as well. If I'm wearing a necklace, his hands and/or mouth is on it! He likes to touch my face when I feed him and often grabs at any facial feature if you're holding him. He constantly has a strand or two of my hair in his hands. His hand-eye coordination develops by the day, seriously. He is learning to put little food puffs in his mouth. He has been picking up big toys, exchanging them from one had to another to his mouth and back to the other hand for a while, but watching him pick up a puff with two fingers and getting it in his mouth is a slow, but a new and fun discovery.

We are attending Music Together class again this fall. There was about a 6 week break between the summer session now the fall session. We went to class a few weeks ago for our first day of the fall session and the teacher didn't recognize Silas! I was also surprised at how much he had changed in those six weeks. In the summer session, towards the end he would grab some instruments, but would mainly just sit and hang out. Now, he's is on the go! He cries when we have to put the instruments away (doesn't understand when we sing 'bye bye' to the instruments) and wants to crawl and stand and check everything and everyone out. We love music class! And Silas LOVES the songs. We listen to them in the car (esp when he's upset) and he calms down immediately. Babies definitely recognize things that are repeated to them.

He is sleeping like a champ! One night we actually had to let him cry it out at around 2am for about 25 minutes, otherwise he's been sleeping through the night for the last month. Sometimes I have to go in there and rub his back if he wakes up, but I'll take that over feeding him in the wee hours of the morning. He gets up ridiculously early, but I usually just have him play in his crib until 7am, or close to that. He usually naps three times a day: morning, afternoon and late afternoon. Sleeps 1-3 hrs a time. He does really well when he eats and sleeps on time, and if he doesn't eat or sleep on time he is pretty much a wreck. So, I try really hard to keep him on his schedule and also get out of the house and get stuff done at the same time. It's tricky!

There have been no real signs of separation anxiety yet, but if he is going to be anything like I was as a child we have a long road ahead of us!

There you have it, where we are at seven months! And like I say about every stage, this one is for real my favorite!

We love you more each day, Boo Bear!
