The drive up was beautiful with all of the leaves getting brighter the further north we drove.
After crappy naps, puke stained sheets, sleepless nights, whispering after 8pm, ruined dinners, long arms (the kid's arms are ten feet long and no matter how far way you put something on a table, from a high chair he can reach it and he will knock it over!), exhaustion, sleepless nights, 2 second attention spans, crying, fussing and did I mention sleepless nights? We finally packed up and headed home at 5:20am this morning (we had already been up since 3am with the kid!)

Here he is, literally crawling out of his pants!
Friday night we were considering leaving. I kept on saying, "I just want to go home!" Seriously, Silas wasn't sleeping. At all. Two of the three nights we were up with him in the middle of the night for three hours. No kidding, I thought I was being Punk'd or something. Ashton?!
Friday night we had dinner at a nice restaurant at Maddens and Joe and I basically had to take turns eating because Silas thought that being in a high chair was some sort of torture. Not only did I eat two bites of my meal and have to box the rest, but we were That Family with the obnoxious baby. I think all of the other couples at the restaurant said, in unison, "It's 7pm, put your baby to sleep!"
Anyways, last night Silas pulled an all nighter again and at 3am I was saying, "Let's just go home." Half joking and half serious. I said it again at 5am (yes, we were still up) and Joe and I looked at each other and immediately started packing.
Someone had to be on baby duty while the other packed. I got baby duty and, seriously, seconds after we finally turned on the lights and started packing up Silas crawled into my lap and FELL ASLEEP!

We were on the road with a sleeping baby before 6:30am. Watching the sun rise was beautiful, but we both agreed this was the first and last time a child is coming with us on an anniversary getaway. If we have a little baby in the family on another anniversary (which I'm guessing we will at some point) we will stay in town and go out to a nice dinner, just us!
To end this post on a positive note: We did have enjoyable moments. One being hiking with the lad
and also some gift shop shopping in Nisswa. You see this hiking backpack? A) Silas loves it and B) it's a chick magnet. While shopping Joe had Silas on his back and at each store a swarm of women would be around Joe and Silas at any given moment cooing at The Cute Baby. I was sleep deprived and basically batting the ladies away with my umbrella :)
