EaR

To add to the flat tires and the broken sink we had a very sick kid over the weekend. We found ourselves in the ER late Friday night/early Saturday morning.

10:00pm Silas is not laying in his crib, even if I rocked him to sleep and try to lay him down he immediately wakes up crying. Joe is debating whether or not to have a snack. Even though he's hungry, he decides against it because, "Every time I eat this late I end up feeling guilty."

10:15pm Joe makes a bed for himself on the floor of our bedroom, because the only way anyone is going to sleep is to have Silas in the big bed propped up on a pillow next to me.

11:00pm We are all sleeping

11:30pm Silas is crying, I am awake with him. I manage to get baby back to sleep.

12:20am Silas is crying, I am awake, I wake up Joe.

This goes on for a while

2:50am I decide that this is more than just a cold. Joe calls the on-call Dr at our clinic. Joe gets frustrated because she keeps asking if the baby is blue. I get on the phone and she tells us to go to the ER at Woodwinds because Silas has been in distress too long.

3:00am Driving to the hospital Joe, in his half sleep, can't figure out whey there are other cars on the road at that time of night.

3:20am Arrive at Woodwinds, Silas is sound asleep in the car. We go back and forth on whether or not to actually bring him in. Who brings a sleeping baby to the ER? Joe is still hungry and considering the McDonald's drive thru.

3:21am Silas cries again. We go in.

4:30am We leave the ER with ear drops, antibiotic prescription and a baby with a high fever. The nurse told us to have him sleep in his car seat because when he lays down the pressure in his ears is painful for him.

5am We finally get home from filling the prescription and eating mini chocolate donuts and chocolate milk from Walgreens. Joe is satisfied. We both feel guilty.

6am Silas wakes up to eat.

7am Joe's alarm goes off.....his tee time is at 7:30.

10:30am Joe and my dad come back after golfing. My dad tries to put our faucet back together after Joe and I tried to put it back together the day before. It is still leaking.

The rest of the weekend is a huge blur.....

As of today, Silas is feeling better. Not as better as I was hoping he'd feel, but things are looking up. The one thing that kills me is that HE WON'T EAT...and if you know this kid you know that food is a huge passion of his (eyes roll back whenever he takes his first few sucks...). No joke, he inhales 7oz every 2.5hrs during the day! That's a lot of food. AND I'm feeding him solids. As I type he is sleeping (in his car seat...like he has the last few nights) so peacefully. I hope he sleeps off the ickies and feels better when his big blues open. I was reminded that A) sick babies are no fun and B) Joe is a hoot when he's half asleep.

Poor Silas!!!! I feel bad for your little guy, but couldn't help but laugh at Joe debating over eating late and night, debating over McDonalds and finally both of you eating the chocolate doughnuts :) I am glad Silas is getting better!
