Bitter Sweet

Last week I took Silas to visit my old nanny family. I have known the Kristo family for almost 5 years now and have spent many summer days chasing the kids around. Katie was their nanny before I was and so I know she can relate, too!

Charlie, Anna, Griffin (my nephew), Sydnee (My niece), David (their cousin)

The familiar drive to work every summer morning....down Dale to Goodrich. Goodrich Ave is lined with big, old, classic St. Paul homes with big trees in the yard and usually some fancy cars parked on the street. Last week was no different, besides the fact that 665 Goodrich had a For Sale sign in their yard. From a distance I was hoping it was the neighbors' house, but the closer I got the clearer it was that the Kristo's house was, in fact, for sale. For someone who isn't a big fan of change, this for sale sign wasn't very welcomed by me. I gave it a dirty look as I walked up the front steps and rang the doorbell.

Typical day, Anna pestering Charlie. This time she is drawing on his face!

Besides the nasty sign in their yard, I really enjoyed seeing the Kristo's. I took Anna and her friend out for ice cream (Charlie is almost 13 and going out for ice cream with his little sister, her friend and his old nanny isn't cool anymore!) and we had a blast. They took turns holding Silas, which was hilarious. Thankfully, he was a trooper as he got passed around from one 8yr old's lap to the other's...over and over and over again.

Anna holding Silas

To be honest, I should've had a blog those glorious summers I was a nanny. I definintely could have come up with some priceless posts and most of them would've included a picture of Anna in the time-out chair!

But seeing the picture of Anna holding Silas makes me realize how fast time flies. Little Anna holding my baby. I never had Anna when she was young enough for diapers, but I know Katie did. I do, though, remember helping Anna get dressed in the mornings and carrying her inside if she fell asleep in the car. And now she's almost 9 years old and has turned into such a lovely young lady.

I remember flying up to hang out with Katie while we were dating and taking loads of Benadryl so Chicki Carrot and Blue Tulip (RIP) wouldn't get the best of me. They are so old! You shouldn't be too sad though b/c you can still keep up with Charlie on facebook!

Aw, I could cry reading your post! I miss the Kristo's so much! When I saw the pic of Anna holding Silas I told Mark how she was two (almost 3) when I started watching her and remembered carrying her from her carseat to her crib - and then I read you had the same sweet memories! Hopefully they haven't moved by Christmas and I can visit them with the girls. They/we are so old!
