Party Time

Silas had a real 'friend' birthday party this year. I asked him what friends at school he wanted to invite to his party and he named 5 kids. Perfect! I found this super cute art place in Mpls that hosts kids' parties. I Heart Kids Art. The owner runs the party, we pick the theme and just show up with cake and ice cream. Done! I suggested robots. Silas is into robots, not super into them (he's more into pirates and ships...) but I suggested a robot birthday and he lit up.

This was my first time hosting a birthday party with kids that I didn't know very well. Nor did I know their parents well. Silas had been invited to two of the boys birthdays already this year, so I knew faces and some names, and of course from preschool pick up, but it was a little nerve-wracking for me. Because I'm socially weird like that!

I sent out an evite to the moms of the kids and after a full 24 hours passed with no responses I hit panic mode. The worse case came to mind and I was worried my boy would be sad because no friends could come to his party. Such a mom issue! But as the days went by slowly the RSVPs came in. All of his friends could come and that made for a happy Silas and a happy momma!

The place was decorated special for Silas.

I saw this table set and immediate thought, this is so Montessori. Turns out the owner of the studio was Montessori educated grades K-8. I tried not to bombard her with a million questions!

As the boys started to come in they all played with the play-doh for a good while. I don't see Silas interact with these friends other than at preschool pick-up, so it was fun to watch them laugh and play together.

Veda was mostly into painting. We got to take this paper home.

Robot time. The kids got to create their own little robots from pieces of wood and other art supplies.

She was busy gluing feathers on wood. It was her she-bot!

Robin (the owner) helped assemble each robot with a hot glue gun.

The robots got spray-painted a metalic silver and as they were drying we had cupcakes and ice cream. Thank you Grandma's Bakery for the special cupcakes! The kids only at the frosting :)

Happy Birthday Dear Silas....

Robin read two robot stories to the kids.

And then they got to go around and share about their robots. Lots of robots had jet packs and super powers. Very fun to hear and see their creative selves in action.

And then presents. Kids crowded around in anticipation.

A great success. It was a very low stress event for me and the kids had a blast. I would definitely recommend this place for a party, or for just an afternoon of art (she has free-play art time during the days for an admission fee). Silas was thrilled, Veda was entertained and even the parents seemed to have a nice time. So glad this turned out!
