Arts and Crafts

I went to Goodwill and bought some old tablecloths, sheets and curtains and had some fun with the sewing machine. First I made this handbag from an old vintage tablecloth and an old sheet. Together the fabric cost less than $6. And I have enough material for 6 handbags!

I was really proud of myself. For one, the vintage tablecloth has some sweet colors. They are much brighter in person and I love the huge floral print. The tablecloth is also the perfect fabric to use because it is thicker and sturdier which works great for a handbag.
Then when I was finished I realized I messed up big time; I put the straps on wrong! Who does that?

So I tried again, this time using sheets for both the outside of the handbag and the lining.

Ta Da! A little out of season (never wear white after Labor Day!) but much better.

Don't be surprised if you get something handmade from me for Christmas! And don't be surprise if it unravels by the new year :)
