Bob the Plumber

Remember the broken sink? Well, it's fixed, Amen! After trying to save $$ and have my dad come over a few times and try to fix it and it still was leaking we just bit the bullet and called a plumber. It wasn't free, but I think maybe the entertainment was worth the money!

Bob came over in his big conversion van. I guess Bob works for himself, but knows the owner of Stillwater Plumbers and helps him out if necessary. While Bob was here I learned A LOT about him. Mid 40's, married, lived in the same townhouse for the last 17 years (he hates change!), had back surgery and couldn't work for a few years, his pain meds gave him cataracts ( had me hand him his glasses a few times while he was under the sink), was 10lbs 8oz when he was born and he has had a beard since he was 16. Bob also had a nasty burn of some sort (looked like rug burn to me) on his arm right below his elbow. He couldn't see it all that well due to its placement, so he had me check it out and diagnose what may have happened. All this time I am really being entertained and chuckling inside. I'm pretty sure he walked in my house saying, "If it's not one thing it's another." As he was laughing.

He fixed the problem (and I'm embarrassed to even say what it was because we so didnt' need a plumber to come and fix it because it was so brainless) and also tightened all of the nuts and bolts and whatever you tighten under the sink. When he was done he had me look under there and he showed me how to tighten each thing just in case there is a leak...."hold this, push on this, yank this a little bit..but not too much because it may bend...and if this pipe looks like this it needs to be over here..." so on and so forth. Very nice of him to clue me in on my sink issues, but honestly, it went in one ear and out the other.

As he was writing up my receipt and I was handing him the check he asked me where our water heater was so he could put a Sillwater Plumbing sticker on it because they service water heaters too. Well, I think my (unfinished) basement was his heaven because we (Bob, Silas and myself) stayed down there for probably 30minutes as he told me what every valve was for and why I would ever need to turn it on/off. "If you're water heater is broken just turn this one notch to the right and you'll still get water, it'll be cold, but you won't be out of water. Ok, this here is for your septic tank, if your water is starting to smell just turn these two levers at the same time and you'll fix the problem..." Once again, super sweet on him to take his time to teach me about my water sources and such, but seriously in one ear and out the other. I was literally trying not to smile or giggle as he was telling me these things and trying really hard to make it look like I was following.

So, if anyone is looking for a good plumber, I know who you can call!
