Never have I been so sleep deprived for such long periods and never have my teeth gone un-brushed for so many days in a row. But in the midst of it all my snuggle time with Rocky never gets old.
I will say I would be a bigger mess without my village. My parents have come several evenings to help me with dinner and bedtime if Joe is working real late. A friend of mine has come over on more than one occasion and made my kids lunch, did my dishes and played with the kids outside while I took a nap. And now I have one of our babysitters come a few mornings a week in June so I can catch some more sleep or take a shower by myself. It's amazing! And now I feel like I can parent my older kids with a tad more patience. I mean, I'm for sure not winning mom of the year, but at least now I don't feel like I failed 100% of the day.
His one month appointment went well. He's growing like crazy. 11lb 6oz (94%) 23 3/4 in (95%) and his head was 15inches (97%). He had a head start by being a 9lb baby! And his feet. They are so big! They are squished in 3 month pajamas. And his arms are ape-like long. He must have gotten that recessive 'tall' gene. Along with that recessive dimple that slays me daily!
He's a big boy so far but what I thought was suck, swallow, breathe issues are probably aspirating/reflux issues. Poor guy. I was telling the pediatrician about his choking while eating and him getting so much air in the process, which makes him squirmy because he has got big burps to get out. He's surprisingly not fussy, but she thinks there is something going on. On Tuesdsy I take him to Children's for a swallow test to see if he is aspirating. If not then I'm thinking we are three for three with reflux.
But we are one for three on the predictable babies. Finally! He is a 'eat, play, sleep' baby and although he's up every 2-3 hours at night to eat, he never opens his eyes and goes right back to sleep after I burp him. He takes a pacifier like a champ and although I do have to bottle feed because I dont produce enough milk, he still likes me and latches so well. I also found someone (sister in law of a friend) who is over-producing and donating her breast milk to me. I know, so cool! And so nice of her.
One of the downsides of Joe being so busy is that Rocky doesn't get much daddy time. And now Rocky only wants mommy. All. The. Time. Last night I was so tired I was dizzy, crying and struggling to put a sentence together so Joe sent me to bed and was going to do the 9:00 feeding so I could get 4hrs of sleep. 45 min in Joe woke me up because Rocky was fussing the whole time. I nursed him for 15 seconds and he was fast asleep. Flattering, but I was really looking forward to that sleep. With that, Rocky is predictable, but only with me right now.
He also has one doting big sister. She is like a magnet to him. Hugs, kisses, rubs and lots of baby talk. Silas loves Rocky and will go to him if he's crying and I'm not there, but otherwise he leaves the smothering up to the rest of us. And we all affectionately call him Rocco-bear. He looks more like a Rocco-bear to me than a Rocky. :)
Still can't believe he's here! So blessed!
