Rocco is a family name on the Antonello side. His grandfather's birth name was William Rocco, although he ended up changing it to William James because he thought the name Rocco was too Italian. Grandpa Bill's father (Joe's great grandfather) was Rocco Vincentzo. I never met Grandpa Bill, but from what I know he was an amazing man with a lot of character, talent and love for The Lord.
I had actually suggested the name Rocky when I was pregnant with Silas not knowing Rocco was a family name. So it kind of worked out to have a second son and name him Rocco/Rocky.
Roman was a name chosen later in the pregnancy. We actually had a different name picked out for a while until I suggested Roman. I like some meaning in a name. Whether it be family or biblical.
Romans 12:12 "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer" was a verse I clung on to as we were struggling to concieve our third child in the midst of miscarriages.
This verse stuck out to me one day and I would remember it in times of doubt and confusion. One afternoon I walked downstairs and Joe was reading the Bible while sitting on the couch. I interrupted him, so he put his finger where he was reading and looked up to talk with me. We talked and he encouraged me as I shared my thoughts/concerns about our struggle. When he finished he looked down and read aloud, "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer." I looked at him in a confused way because I was pretty sure I never told him that that was the verse I had grown to lean on. I asked him why he said that verse. He looked up and said, " I was just reading Romans and that was where I left off before you came down."
Confirmation for me to hold tight to those words.
Rocco's due date: 5/2/14 = 12 and the due date according to the 20 week ultrasound was 4/30/13 = 12
My ultrasound was on Dec 12 (12/12) and that was just the day I was 20 weeks, no planning on my part.
I kept on wondering if his birth date and time would have anything to do with 12. No, but as I was in labor at home, waiting for my parents to get to our house and stay with the kids I asked Joe to hand me my phone so I could text my girlfriends and let them know I'm heading to the hospital. I looked at my phone as he handed it to me and the time was 12:12am.
Weight 9lb 3oz =12
For the record I am not superstitious and am normally not a numbers person, but in the midst of trying to expand our family and suffering the losses from miscarriages I asked God to meet me where I was. And to show me he was present. And He did! Of course He did.
Rocco also means 'rest'. So far he has been our most peaceful baby.
And that is how our little man got his name. So fitting!
