So, we're pretty sure this out of control behavior is due to a milk allergy. Seriously, it has been four days of us being at the end of our ropes with Silas.
Clingy and needy all. day. long. Not napping well, waking up screaming, not eating like he usually does, just all around having a rough time. We tried giving him Tylenol and he wouldn't even open his mouth.
We couldn't figure it out. I was almost wondering if this was a new stage and that made me nervous. You never know how long a "stage" could last! If anything we thought he was more content as of late. Silas being free and mobile has been a huge benefit for all of us! Joe's dad jokes that Silas was born a toddler stuck in a little, immobile body, always squirming.
We took him to the Dr on Thurs night and she found nothing wrong. Friday and Saturday were the WORST. He wanted to be held, then he wanted to be let down. He wasn't playing right, eating right or sleeping right. Joe and I were at our wits ends trying to figure it/him out. We realize he isn't an "easy" baby, but THIS?
This was taken last night. Doesn't he look sad?I won't give you play by play, but this morning was miserable. I ended up blow drying my hair while holding Silas. Not ideal!
He did fine at the church nursery, although the volunteer commented on how serious he was. He took a ridiculously short nap (once again) and when he got up we shared a pear. He LOVED it. He sat in my lap, content, eating this pear for about 15 minutes. We were soaking up the peace and quiet and crossing our fingers for more pears! Then about 5 minutes after he devoured the pear we smelled it, he pooped, and it was bad! But as bad as that poop smelled was as good as he felt. HE WAS BACK! A happy Silas with a full diaper. There were a few more bad diapers in the following thirty minutes, but as time went on the more he came back.
We moved from the couch to the counter, the pear was quite messy! I thought he looked so cute topless and eating a pear so I had to take a picture. Don't worry, my hand was on his behind while I took the picture.I'm not kidding, when he flashed a Silas smile I knew he was better and a HUGE weight was lifted off my shoulders. My baby!!
We did the math (and carried the one) and figured that milk was probably the problem. He was out of his formula and since kids get switched to whole milk at one year and he is just a few weeks away from that we thought we'd do the switch now. Granted we switched him over yesterday, we were mixing his Gentlease with regular formula the few days before because we kept on forgetting to get more Gentlease. We've done this before and it never seemed to bother him, but maybe the whole milk on top of that just set him off.
It could be a stomach bug, but Joe is lactose intolerant as an adult and I was as a baby, so it makes sense for Silas to be more sensitive. I also called my mom and she said that I had similar symptoms.
I sure hope we cracked the code. He has been much much happier after The Poop and I hope this happy, content and fun-loving attitude continues!
One weeks worth of formula: $25
Giving him formula for another year: Lots of $$
A happy kid: PRICELESS!!!

Connor didn't poop for 4 days one time and when he finally went my baby boy was back too!!! I will gladly change dirty dipers over dealing with an overly cranky child any day!! We've got some sort of milk issues too :)
I am glad he is back to his normal self. Sometimes it is just knowing what might be wrong that makes all the difference
