And The Clouds Have Parted

Although I hadn't been actually getting up to feed Silas in the middle of the night, I was definitely still getting up at every peep in fear that the peep will turn into an all out scream if I let it be. I was getting up 2 to 3 times a night to win the Helicopter Mom of the Year award and put the covers back on Silas. I know, sickening. I would get mad every time I would get out of my warm bed to a fussing infant....but apparently I wasn't mad enough to not tend to his every. single. need.

One weekend I plugged the monitor in Joe's side of the bed and said, "Tonight, you're on duty." Sure enough, Silas made a fuss and I nudged Joe saying, "He needs to be covered back up." Joe (who is the sllooowweest waker-uper in the history of waker-upers) sits on the end of the bed, rubs his eyes, cracks his neck to the left, then to the right, stands up and goes to the bathroom. Meanwhile I am wide awake both rolling my eyes and chuckling in bed at how looong it is taking Joe to tend to the baby. (He makes my slow middle-of-the-night stagger look like a dead out sprint) After the bathroom he gets a drink and then heads to Silas' room. Four seconds later he's back in bed saying, "That was easy." Apparently Silas went back to sleep on his own. Huh, imagine that! All by himself---no back rubbing or cover putting on, just sleeping.

I got the picture so I decided about a week ago that the monitor wasn't allowed to sit on my night stand at night....as a matter of fact, it wasn't even allowed in my room! We decided to keep his door open and our door open and then if he is screaming or if the Angel Care System goes off I can hear it, otherwise I will be sleeping.

And, it works! I've slept through the night (and wow are nights short!) for a solid week now. And between that and the rain finally letting up, the world is just that much brighter!

Here he is holding his own bottle AND watching Baby Einstein....both usually only last a few short minutes
